yoga's memory mystery solved

many yoga teachers who work with the elderly and disabled have anecdotally reported patients showing some signs of dementia demonstrate improved concentration after establishing a regular yoga practice. but i don't think it's been seriously studied, and certainly no one understood how yoga might help.

until now. now researchers have findings that seem to show exercise causes new brain cells to grow in the hippocampus, a brain area associated with memory.

traditionally yoga has claimed several kinds of mental benefits -- and we may have a scientific reason why. specifically, alzheimer's begins by attacking the hippocampus.

perhaps yoga helps some memory-related cells regrow. . .slowly and over time?
